What is Scam call ?

Another nuisance is phone scams. If you have a lot of missed calls from the same number you are unfamiliar with, do not call it back. It is very probable that it is a scam call. The problem with such calls is that they are very difficult to recognise. They are very similar to ordinary numbers.

Our website will help you to recognise at least some of them. If you decide to call the unknown number back, and you realise that there is nobody on the other end, hang up immediately. Otherwise, you may be charged high connection fees because very often such call is sent to a premium rate number without your knowledge.

Even if there’s someone on the other end, they may pretend a person or an organisation you trust. They usually ask for very sensitive information such as name and address, passport numbers, banking details, credit card details etc. Therefore, remember, do not provide any personal information.

A few signs that may indicate telephone fraud

  • They want you to invest in something

  • They want your credit card data

  • Caller trying to get you to buy something over the phone will offer a bonus or free gift if you purchase what they are selling right away

  • The caller says you have been selected to receive a grant for something from the government, but you need to pay a processing fee

  • The caller may say you have won a free vacation or some other prize, but there is a shipping or handling fee, so they need your credit card information to send it to you

  • If you get a call from someone selling tickets to a big-prize lottery from another country

  • If you miss a call from an unfamiliar number and it only rang once, do not call back out of curiosity. It can redirects you to a pay-per-minute number that plays a fake recorded message

  • They offer to fix your computer

  • They are collecting for a charity you have never heard of. Fake charities will insist on your credit card number

  • They want your personal information

  • They are collecting a debt which you do not remember incurring

How does reverse phone number lookup work?

To identify the number you don't know, first you have to type 'reverse phone lookup' on the browser, then type the unknown number in the search field, click the search button and you'll get the results. You will find all the details linked to the unknown number.

The results will include the phone owner's name and address and sometimes the exact location. You can use websites which are paid or free of charge. 1-515-278-4447 This number 515-278-4447 called me yesterday when I was driving. Then it called me again in the morning but I was at work and couldn't answer it. I was trying to call back several times but the line was engaged. I'm sure they will call me again but I feel it's a telemarketer or a scammer.
1-515-278-4447 Got a call from this phone number 5152784447 today in the morning, they left no message. It is risky to answer unknown calls. In a lot of cases they get paid for every pick up call even though they don't get to fleece you. If it's anything important, they will leave a message on voice mail.
1-515-212-6675 I picked up but no one responded so I am assuming that it is some form of auto-connect on voice system, I had music in background which may have confused it. No idea yet if it is nuisance sales type call or criminal spam, will report if it calls again.

1-515-206-8746 This one is really a mixed bag because it's I've received countless calls from this number for some time now; I'll answer every now & again, otherwise I usually see it in my log files for my phone blocker. The most recent one was today; it made it through...(?) It was the Cindy Axne campaign; HOWEVER, political stuff in Iowa...that's not too out of the ordinary, especially considering some of the bizarre calls I've rec'd from that number. It's a telecoms company that sells landlines. I believe it's Level 3 Communications "from" Fort Dodge, IA. I don't know whom their customers are, but I recall answering several months ago to someone claiming & saying he was from Iowa City; he was a University student that specifically was calling me to inform me of some club meeting I might be interested in joining. And, not a joke, he claimed it was for students to learn about confucianism in society today. Hey, that's cool! Racism against Asians today has reached disgusting levels. Good for him on setting the record straight, I say! ...The problem — I attended IA State, graduated in 2012 ...from Graduate School; I'm not a student at U of Iowa...? Still, that's ok...I didn't make an issue of it; not that big of a deal. I told him that's a really long drive for me so I'd have to decline...I live in Des Moines...(?). Still, & again not a joke, he said he would be in Des Moines before this club meeting & that he could swing by, & he'd arrive me home too. I told him that's extremely generous, but I would be uncomfortable giving out my address & that it would be awkward leaving with a stranger for ~half a day. ...Now, & still not a joke, this person spoke with an accent; & that's fine — learning another language is difficult; he had learned more English than I have for any other language. I recognize everything could have been on the up & up; that it wasn't a prank, that it was true & he was sincere. But given all that was said already, the unsolicited nature of the call, & when I commented that he was effectively a stranger & that was reason enough not to accept his offer to drive me an hour and a half away, his rebuttal, that he wasn't a stranger...that he was born & raised in Iowa...(?) That may well be; but, that's still the point I ended the phone call. I wasn't going to Iowa City, I am a tolerant individual, but that much bizarre in one call...I don't know. The line of bs had already been tripped several times. He wouldn't let the phone call come to an end. I believe extraordinary things exist in this world; all that was said could have been one extraordinarily true claim; but, it was still unsolicited, still bizarre off the charts, & I can spot bs just as well as the next person. That he was born & raised in Iowa, yet had a heavy accent; I had to draw the line somewhere. .....Anyhow; ...bizarre stuff. I don't recommend answering...(?)
