816-282-0997 – SSN scam user reviews

I live in Rapid City, South Dakota. This morning I received a phone call from a 605 area code. That is my area code. Even though I didn't know who it was I answered it because I have been expecting a call for a business related matter. Anyway, it was a creepy voice recording that my SSN had been suspended because of fraud. I was supposed to click ""1"" to be connected to someone. I didn't. A couple of hours later, I received a call from this 816 number. My phone suspected it was potential spam and because I like to mess with the scammers, I answered it. It was another recording and I was told to ""drop my work immediately"" and call a number. I wrote the number down and it was actually this same number...so stupid. So I called the number and was immediately connected to someone. They asked me to verify my name. I made one up. Then they asked to verify my dob. I made it up. The guy proceeded to talk to me as though the verification was correct. I asked how my SSN was attached to fraud and he refused to tell me anything. This guy continually whispered something that I could not understand. It was very bizarre and creepy. He ended up hanging up on me. No information was obtained other than my fake name and DOB. It's kind of fun messing with them.

I would receive this phone number 8162820997 on my landline at home for the past month. They are calling mostly during the day time. The caller ID does not list who is calling other than the phone number. The caller would always hang up and not leave a voice message. I do not know how this person got my unlisted phone number. Maybe it is a telemarketer, even though my unlisted phone number is on the Do Not Call list.
